Foreign Languages
We currently offer each student, starting at grade K, the opportunity to take French or Spanish instruction daily. The goal of this instruction is language familiarity but not fluency. (Fluency is typically gained either by immersion, travel, or intensive study and practice.) In February 2012, we will pilot Rosetta Stone, an online language tool, at the upper school level. In addition to the teacher’s classroom work, Rosetta Stone will give each student a language-lab type learning experience. Rosetta Stone has a speech recognition and pronounciation component, in addition to its “learning to speak” emphasis.
